ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Indie-Folk artist Leah Jean uses jazz-infused guitar riffs mixed with lo-fi and experimental elements to create dreamy and complex backdrops for her poignant and relatable stories. Inspired by musicians and artists such as Kimbra, Kacey Musgraves, and Phoebe Bridgers, Jean writes songs that are tinged with melancholy, rooted in nostalgia, and possess a keen sense of brave vulnerability.

Jean’s debut album, ‘Creatures In The Room’, is as equally emotionally charged as it is comforting. The 12-track project was produced by Lovegrove Studios (Sam Roller and Van Isaacson) in Nashville, Tennessee. All of the songs featured on the album were written by Jean with the exception of Kacey Musgraves’ “Slow Burn.” Allison Mahal (IVPR) said of the new material, “Leah’s vocals are effortless and the production is what indie-folk dreams are made of. It’s a 10/10 for me!”

Many of the album’s themes revolve around Jean revealing her own struggles with anxiety and depression and highlighting the various effects individuals have had on her life. “I hope I come off as very relatable,” shares Jean. “I like to think I’m not the only one with really intense feelings about everything... I want people who also live with various creatures in their minds to feel held by this record.”

After completing over 10 years of guitar training, studying jazz guitar in college, and graduating from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Music, Jean set her sights on Nashville and made the move in 2020. Prior to that, in 2017, the songwriter’s first extended play (EP), ‘Comme Je Trouve,’ produced by Noam Wallenberg and featuring Woody Goss of Vulfpeck on keys, was released on all major streaming platforms.

Currently residing in Nashville, TN, Jean is preparing to release her debut full-length album, ‘Creatures In The Room’ and will be releasing two singles with accompanying visual content ahead of the album drop. When not writing, recording, and performing you can find Jean painting, knitting, watching comedy, and designing her own line of earrings which can be found in her Etsy Shop - LeahJeansEarrings.
